Somerset overview
In order to have an in-depth understanding, and evidence, of “where we were” before work started on the review, a research consultancy was commissioned to provide a geographical perspective on the economic, social and environmental situation in Somerset.
The consultancy chosen was the Local Futures Group who offer a range of services to help organisations understand current conditions, anticipate future change and shape future visions and strategies.
By using an outside consultancy group, we were able to commission an independent comparative report on Somerset in relation to both the rest of the southwest and the country as a whole, using publicly available statistics.
The first document below contains the report from the Local Futures Group on the "State of the County" of Somerset and the second document contains the graphs, tables and maps produced from their research:
Following the publication of the State of the County report and its presentation to the SSP Forum, there was a delay in the strategy review and development process whilst a new Government White Paper that would influence the strategy was awaited.
