Sustainable Community Strategy - How we got there

Step 3 – February 2007

Review process agreed

The government announced that new Local Area Agreements were to be developed and published covering the period 2008 to 2011.

In February 2007, the SSP Forum agreed that the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) update should set the context for the new Local Area Agreement (LAA).  The timescales for doing this work were very tight as the LAA needed to be ready for delivery from April 2008.  Therefore, the background information for both the SCS and the LAA was collected at the same time and they were developed in parallel.

The Local Government White Paper “Strong and Prosperous Communities” was published and was discussed at the SSP Forum meeting on 16th February, with particular consideration to its impact on the new LAA and Sustainable Community Strategy.

The following documents include the Local Government White Paper, a summary of the paper and also the bulletin from the SSP Forum meeting where the white paper was discussed in relation to the LAA and the Sustainable Community Strategy:
