Step 5 – January 2008
‘Story for Somerset’ emerged
The position statements produced as a result of the work carried out by the Local Area Agreement (LAA) Theme Leads (see Step 4) contained the facts and views on specific areas such as health, safety, etc.
These now needed to be brought together and put into the context of real life here in Somerset and hence the ‘Story of Somerset’ evolved. Somerset is very special – local people value its history, landscape and many distinctive communities and these need to be preserved whilst facing the challenges of the future.
More work was carried out:
• The position statements were realigned with the proposed aims.
• Key facts and figures were reviewed.
• The issues and challenges likely to be faced in the future were considered.
• The possible forthcoming priorities were drafted.
From this work, story boards were created and used in presentations made to key partners, community groups, parish councils, local strategic partnerships, etc. These story boards detailed the key points and trends of all the research and also suggested possible priorities for the future. The involvement of those attending was invited and, whilst priorities were suggested, they were encouraged to indicate their agreement or otherwise.
The story boards provided the context for the discussions and were updated and refined as the consultations progressed. This meant that the final presentation given to the SSP Forum members on 1st February 2008 contained the views and evidence gleaned from the previous sessions.
The story boards developed from the research, position statements, etc can be viewed via the following link:
